Staff of the Month 2011 Winners


Listed below are the names of the people who were named Staff of the Month for the year 2011 & nominated for Team Member of the Year for 2011.

Jay Borders
Jon takes time to get to know the people he supports as well as their family members, talks highly of everyone and refrains from gossip. He is excellent if a crisis situation arises and knows how to defuse the situation. Jon has a flexible and positive attitude when schedules need to be switched around.
Jack assisted someone he supports in attending the Special Olympics swim team and helped to develop a budget system so that the person could gain understanding in the value of money. He makes sure the people he supports go on a lot of outings and they stay active. Jack is always willing to lend extra support with his team.
Sean has a calm and patient demeanor that helps keep the people he supports in a good space. He encourages the person he supports to take the lead while still keeping them safe and supported. Sean is a great team player by always volunteering to jump in and help out if another team member needs him.
Jay is always ensuring the people he supports have active lives in the community and are developing new friendships. He is an advocate for the people he supports and makes sure their preferences are always communicated. Jays calm and quiet personality brings consistency to the atmosphere of the home.

John is consistent, does outstanding work, has a positive and fun attitude. He’s very in tune with the needs of the people he supports, has the ability to set aside inhibitions and get out there to have a great time. He participated in Camp Grabenhorst and it was evident he enjoyed being with the people we support by making it fun for them – truly person centered.
Alissa provides consistency with the people she supports by following their plans and supports. She always encourages them to try new things in a calm, safe manner. She is flexible in covering and filling in different shifts when needed.
Angela gives great “non-judgemental” feedback relating to the people she supports, has vast knowledge of PCLs policies and procedures and is always willing to do anything that is asked of her. She always comes to work with a positive attitude and enjoys spending time with the people she supports and her team. Justin makes a significant difference in the lives of the people he supports by having a positive attitude and sense of humor that contributes to creating a light atmosphere. He is supportive of him team mates and works to problem solve things to make them better instead of just going with the flow all the time.

Although Craig has only been a part of the Residential team for about a year - he hit the floor running and has been a tremendous asset to the team working with Therap, on all things related to Olson's Pharmacy or anything else that we ask of him. He has become a Certified Therap Trainer; he is a great trainer and is always willing to train in either large groups or one on one, whatever people need. He always has a positive can do attitude, whether it is being volunteered to work on a committee or help out another department with Therap needs, he is reliable and is a fun person to work with.
Cameroun assisted the people he supports in volunteering at a horse rescue ranch where they were able to earn time to ride the horses. Cameroun donated his time so a person he supports could ride longer. He helps assist with OIS when asked and helps support individuals and team members alike during crisis situations. Cameroun always has a positive attitude and leads by example.
Sherry is the “go to” person in the office that helps in every way – from fixing the copy machine, scheduling rooms at a last moments notice to keeping the office tidy and clean. She’s always willing to help out and goes through her day with a smile.
Anna is always willing to help out a fellow co-worker, whether it is a behavior issue or just to give them a break. She has taught her co-workers how help the individuals with Art and how to engage some of our most challenging individuals. Her positive and caring attitude is spreading. Anna is cheerful, engaging and speaks highly of all her co-workers. She enjoys her job, and works hard to have a great team that provides the best supports for the individuals in the Employment Department.

Angie is a person who consistently thinks outside the box, makes things happen for the people she supports. She went on the Disneyland trip and made it an awesome experience for the people who went. Angie completely understands the value in community connections and it shows in how she encourages the people she supports to build those connections. She is a dedicated team member and works with her team to problem solve.
Ford is a real asset to the Maintenance Team due to his positive attitude and willingness to take on any task. He's like a sponge when it comes to learning new things and the Maintenance Team is glad to have him on their team.
Jennifer is a “Rock” in her team, she communicates effectively, is very knowledgeable and a great resource to her team members. She is always encouraging outings and activities that the people she supports enjoy and it is evident that she genuinely cares for them.
Natalie is always willing to jump in at a moments notice to help the person she supports. She has developed new tools to help someone she supports cross hurdles that he was struggling with, and it was VERY successful. Natalie is a great team member that always shows up with a positive attitude and a willingness to try new things.

Ronda is always willing to help people. She jumps right in whenever and wherever she is needed. Ronda enjoys helping people so much she has even volunteered her time and skills with horses as a form of therapy for people she supports.
Jenn approaches everything with a “can do” attitude. Even during times of high pressure and stress, she always gets the job done. Jenn is creative in meeting the needs of the people she supports by thinking outside the box to make sure the people she supports are happy.
Tami is very dependable, goes above and beyond in her job – putting health and safety as her number one priority. She is always up for any challenge and is a leader within her team.
Liz helped someone she supports with their goal of graduating from the advocate program by assisting with homework and attending the meetings with the person. She encourages independence, community inclusion and the people she supports are always happy to see her.

Jimmy is a fantastic advocate for the people we support. He supports and encourages them to make new community connections and friends, as well as supports them to maintain the friendships they already have. Jimmy is extremely knowledgeable about the needs and wants of the people he supports and ensures they have every opportunity to make it happen.
Hannah uses her knowledge, skill, and understanding of the person she supports to get his buy-in to do the things he needs to do to keep him health, safe and independent. She is extremely creative in how she approaches development and implementation of ISP goals. Hannah's work ethic, her belief in PCL's Mission and Values, and her interest in this field drive her to learn more, role model for other people, and be an outstanding PCL Employee.
Johnny is very person centered. He ensures that the people we support are listened to and works with their teams and his co-workers to make it happen. He is a very consistent and caring person that strives to help make a difference in the lives of the people we support.
Steven has great communication skills, is very patient and always maintaining his cool. He started the program with the Trail Blazers and PCL, setting up season tickets and other special events.

Jesse has a good relationship with all his co-workers. He has a happy go lucky kind of way about him. He works with some individuals with high behavior issues, however this never seems to get him down. Jesse has a can do attitude, and is willing to help out where ever needed. Jesse is quick with a smile and a kind word for everyone.
Billy encourages the people he supports to be contributing members of their community. He also supports them to make meaningful, lasting relationships with people in their community. Billy leads his life with respect, ethics and understanding.
Rose is the perfect match for the person she supports because of her depth of understanding of human behavior, the disability and mental health issues of the person she supports. She acknowledges barriers in a matter-of-fact manner, but works with the person she supports to not to let those barriers get in the way of living up to her potential. Rose encourages the person she supports and helps her to build self confidence, teaching her that she can advocate for herself.
Sheri is very flexible, always willing to take on new tasks, builds great rapport with the people we support as well as team members in Grants Pass. She’s always professional and friendly when interacting with businesses and the community at large.

Becca has a positive attitude along with very high standards. She engages with the people she supports by singing with them as well as accompanying them to Disneyland – where she made sure things were organized and ran smoothly. Becca is generous, donating the two bikes she won at a fund-raiser to a person who had also entered in hopes of winning the bikes for his children for Christmas gifts.
Megan is the heart of A.H.'s team. She exemplifies commitment, integrity, compassion and team leadership in all she does, from daily home operations to weekly delighters for A.H., A.H.'s mother and her team has come to rely on Megan for her expertise, consistency and kindness in all manners of situations. If there is something to be done, she does it. If there is something needing to be said, she says it and if change is needed she will be the instrument to make it happen.
Shawn is always respectful of the people we support, provides creative supports for them, while assuring a healthy quality of life. He instills confidence and choice in the people he supports, goes above and beyond, making sure vacations go smoothly, implements healthy diets and insures that healthy options are always available.
Casey goes out of his way to support staff and the people supported by PCL. He was able to get free tickets to WWE for individuals and their staff for an awesome night of fun. He has also used resources through Workers' Comp to get free equipment for staff on light duty to get back to work. He is always looking for innovative ways to save money and processes to work better.

Bob embraces his deafness and teaches the people he supports to do the same, as well as to be mindful of how they perceive their environment he adapts his approach accordingly. He has grown close to the families of the people he supports as well. Bob not only enhances the lives of the people he supports, he also volunteers his time in the deaf community, such as staffing a booth at a pow wow that represented deaf tribesman.
Cheryl has been a consistent support for the people she supports. She is able to switch gears from moment to moment to accommodate the needs of the people she supports. Cheryl has taken the time to share what it is to be a friend, to promote conversations on topics other than small talk. She also takes great pride in the appearance of the house and yard. Kairaba is calm, cool and compassionate when working with the people he supports as well as his team. He is consistent, professional and friendly, which is just a part of why he is considered to be a mentor. Kairaba finds answers and paves the way, making it apparent how he values a job well done.
Ruben will walk the extra mile – always, literally. He has built and kept meaningful relationships with the people he supports as well as their families. His demeanor at Baxter is calm and peaceful, helping to diffuse some of the more challenging situations that occasionally arise.

Matt is gentle and reassuring. He has encouraged the people he supports to go out into the community and do things they have never tried before, while giving them choices. He has a great sense of humor. His caring and dedication is inspiring to those around him.
