This year, The Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities (OCDD), Oregon Self Advocacy Coalition (OSAC), and The Arc Oregon planned this year’s statewide celebration around the theme:
“Nothing About Us Without Us.”
This principle reminds us that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities must be at the center of decisions that impact their lives. Their voices, lived experiences, and leadership matter in services, supports, policies, and everyday life.
This value is foundational for PCL. We support people to make their own choices, pursue their own goals, and live lives shaped by what they want and value. Whether it’s choosing how to spend their day, which activities or clubs they participate in, or what goals they’re working toward, self-advocacy and opportunity are essential.
I/DD Awareness is not just about recognition, it’s about action. It’s about listening more closely, creating space for leadership, and continuing to build a community where people are not just included, but truly heard.
